Kiva

I want to take a moment to pimp out the Kiva reunion concert coming up August 8th in Silver Spring, MD. Details at http://www.kivasong.com/schedule/current.html. The concert promises to be awesome with Amikaeyla and Jaqui MacMillan joining them along with many past members including Lynn Cunningham who some of you might know better from the Pyrates Royale.

kid's songs

Ok, now I'm curious, due to [info]castalusoria's post I was reading Wikipedia and came across an entry for Mairzy Doats - I had forgotten about this song, but as a kid it was my absolute favorite song of all time. The deep and meaningful lyrics go:

Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wooden shoe
Yes! Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey
A kiddley divey too, wooden shoe
If the words sound queer and funny to your ear, a little bit jumbled and jivey,
Sing "Mares eat oats and does eat oats and little lambs eat ivy."

So I'm wondering what are other peoples favorite kid songs?
You know, the one you made your parents play over and over and over again when you were like 5 years old.

Amused that is was an Australian that pointed this article out to me (thanks, [info]drjon).

Washington Post's experiment of having a famous classical musician busking at L'enfant station during rush hour and recording the reactions.

Well worth reading.

Albannach

I did make it to the Frederick Celtic Festival, though I didn't stay long. Only thing on note was discovering the excellent band, Albannach. The have a sound similar to The Rogues, but with more cowbell, I mean drums, lots more drums. Anyway, if you're into the Celtic music thing check them out.

pub review

McGinty's meets with my approval. It still had that new paint smell, but the food was good and Scythian were their usual awesome selves. Very nice performance space. The TVs weren't hooked up yet so we had to pop over to Austen Grill to see GMU set spanked.

Feeling a little sick today so will probably stay home.

weekend plans

This Friday I'll be gaming at GCOM-Middletown. GCOM also has games going on in Fairfax, Silver Spring, Rockville, and Reisterstown the same day and speaking of gaming, we're only a month away from GCOM Game Days - one of the best small gaming conventions in our area.

Most of Saturday will be spent helping a friend clean out their house. In the evening plan on heading out to Silver Spring's newest Irish pub - kindly pointed out by [info]young_egotist, watch the GMU game (go Patriots!), and see Scythian play - if you want to hear some awesome Celtic rock come and join us.

Sunday will by working on my own house and maybe going out to see [info]random221b in The Man Who Came to Dinner in Alexandria. Somewhere in there I'd like to find time to finally see V for Vendetta as well.

Also since [info]geekchick reminded me: Tempest at Jammin' Java next Wednesday.

Confusion

update and scheduling

Dump of lots of stuff.

From last weekend . . .

Music, the [info]revelmoon concert was awesome. We should definitely get them for FSG, hey [info]citabria, do you know who's doing music next year? I also really liked Rene Carawan.

Tubing was lots of fun, good to see peeps, survived the heat ok, being in the water definitely helps.

Next weekend I'll be at the psuedo-LARP Stardust which means spending an entire weekend in the heat, but it'll be worth it because:
  1. [info]wylddelirium will be there

  2. I need to take a look at the site before it's time to use it for In the Dark Times. BTW, we hope to have a registration page up for Dark Times within the next month or so.

  3. I'll be able to wear a skirt

The weekend after - I'll be hosting gaming in Brunswick Saturday the 27th. Gaming at Beans in the Belfry worked well last time so we'll do it again. More details.
Sunday I'll have free. I might go to faire, the prospect of seeing [info]violetmoo and other peeps is tempting, but I'm not going to go if it looks like it'll be hot, which is likely.

Labor day weekend is TCEP with lots of gaming goodness. Yay!

After that I'll probably be spending most of my weekends at faire.

Upcoming concerts:
8/23 Tempest at Jammin Java
8/29 Wolfstone/Seven Nations at Birchmere
10/6 Gaelic Storm at Birchmere
10/10 Dead Can Dance at Strathmore
also Spamalot 10/26 - friendly reminder to those that owe me money for tickets.

Other fall events - I'm still undecided about Intercon (probably not) and Healing the Spirit (probably).

And in completely unrelated news - Puppeteers are suspected terrorists - [info]chrisv, what did you do?

weekend plans

Saturday I plan to spend much of the day in Leesburg at Esoterica's music festival listening to [info]revelmoon and others. Anyone want to come with?

Sunday it'll be water tubing with [info]macdobhran and company. Yay.

Speaking of Concerts . . .
[info]geekchick pointed out that Dead Can Dance are coming to DC in October - Details.

The Thea Gilmore show last night was awesome, hardly anyone there either - next time she's in town I'm dragging more of you with me. Esp. since she promised me she'd play my favorite song next time.

In other news, work has finally bought me Dreamweaver. Happy day.
